REMEMBRANCE OF TIMES PAST VI

One of our favorite evenings of the year is upon us once again, the annual Valentine's Potluck Dinner, complete with romantic music, history, poetry, and tales both fictional and true!

When: Tuesday, February 3 at 6:00 p.m.

Where: The Depot

Jack MacKenzie, our Vice President and event co-ordinator, advises that tickets of admission, as before, will be a Valentine, more if you feel generous, that will go into a decorated box and later will be distributed to the shut-in and elderly. You can sign the card(s) with your name or just "A Secret Admirer."

Bring your wedding picture for display (it was great fun last year) and anecdotes of your courtship both amorous and amusing.

Above all, bring your most delicious and creative dish to pass (emphasis on main courses and salads if possible), plus your own dishes and silver. We provide napkins, cups, and beverages. A microwave is available.

And a special treat! The always welcome Charlevoix Men's Chorus will be on hand, already rehearsing their romantic favorites to swell the heart.

There will be prizes galore - you will have to work hard not to win one. The women will of course all be lovely, and the men will look the best they can.

The potluck is open to everyone, so bring a guest or two - no admission charge. Call the Harsha House if you need a ride.

"No one is ever too old to hold hands."
- Jack MacKenzie

HUGELY SUCCESSFUL HOLIDAY SEASON

The museum store, combined with the Bridge Street Book Shop, the Shop of the Gulls (book sales), and Maison & Jardin (calendar sales) had its most successful holiday sales season ever. A New York City architect found ALL his selections in our museum store after a disappointing trip to the Gaslight District in Petoskey where he claimed he could find nothing his Charlevoix relatives would like.

"A morsel of genuine history is a thing so rare as to be always valuable."
- Thomas Jefferson to John Adams, 1817

MEMBER NEWS

The Harsha House visiting hours for January through March will be Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 1-4.

NOTE! SPRING HOURS

The Society welcomes new members: Paul & Linda Weston (Ralph Hamilton Circle); John F. Butzer. Donation received: from Bob Gill in memory of Louise Gill. The Society deeply regrets the recent passing of member Larry Ingalls. The Society recognizes the recent passing of Robert Smalley of Ellsworth. Mr. Smalley assisted member John Gaskin in the restoration of the Railway Express baggage cart at the Depot. The Society would like to thank Christopher Gibbons of Grand Rapids for the return of an antique copper light fixture original to the Harsha House. He bought it at an auction in the 1980s and donated it to us recently. It now hangs over the conference table in the museum's library/research room.

Want list: If anyone has a good working vacuum cleaner with an extension wand, the Harsha House could use it.
