| HISTORIC INDUSTRIES & BUSINESSES
Charlevoix has witnessed the coming and going of a number of businesses. Beginning with the vitally important fishing trade, then lumbering, several more varied industries thrived here for a time until their resources were depleted or the times changed their usefulness. Join us for an illustrated program hosted by your editor and museum co-director David L. Miles of these once-vital components of our town's history.
When: Tuesday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m.
Where: The Depot
The evening will explore when Charlevoix was the Great Lakes' #1 fish export town, when lumbering was king and th great logs came into town by sledge or by water into Round Lake, ice cutting incisions on frozen Lake Charlevoix, the Sugar Beet Factory where Irish Marina now stands, the Ferry Seed Company/Foster Boat Works, the first cement plant (NOT at South Point), and the construction of the great containment sphere at the Big Rock nuclear power plant, plus a selection of photos of businesses and industries never shown in a previous Society program or published before.
We look forward to seeing you there. Light refreshments, no admission charge, and bring a guest or two.

JIM ANNIS CLASSIC PRINTS REDUCED
In 1994 the Society received a large number of prints of a painting done by renowned local artist Jim Annis to be used as a major fundraiser for the Depot restoration project. The Society had received title to the Depot in 1992 and was in need of funds to restore it. The price per print was $125. It is titled "A Summer Morning - The Resort Special Heading North, 1930s" and show a classic train stopped at the Depot on its way to Petoskey and Harbor Springs. These trains brought thousands of resorters and vacationers to our shores for decades. The Depot was the first building in Charlevoix many of those travelers experienced.
Ten years later, with the Depot now restored and used frequently as a multi-function venue, the Society has decided to reduce the price of this beautiful, unique print to $75 for signed and numbered copies, and $40 for unsigned copies. Mailing tubes are $2.50, postage is $4.00. The print measures 33" x 21". It would make a wonderful addition to any decor.

VACUUM STILL NEEDED
The Harsha House could still use an updated vacuum cleaner, preferably in very good condition and with an extension wand, if anyone has one they are willing to donate. Call the Harsha House, 547-0373, or drop it off if you have one you are replacing.

19 CALENDARS LEFT!
Only nineteen of the 2004 Historic Photo Calendars remain in the museum store. Those who intended to but have not yet obtained one should not delay because they will certainly be gone by summer.
