ANNUAL HARVEST POTLUCK AT DEPOT!
That season is once again around the corner, when the days get much shorter, a nip stays in the air, and the trees begin their final burst of glory. As in previous years, we will celebrate the turning with our annual Harvest Potluck. Dig out your favorite hearty recipe and gather once again for this celebration of our beautiful and all too few invigorating fall days when the leaves should be approaching their peak and Apple Fest will be soon upon us, the last blast of the town's social year. (I've said it before and I'll say it again - puhleez go lightly on the squash dishes. Your editor loathes squash. Author Russell Baker, who equally despised it, got it exactly right: "It tastes like it sounds." But don't let that influence you.)
When: Tuesday, October 4 at 6:00 p.m.
Where: The Depot
And, we are fortunate to welcome back Eric Ernst, guitarist and balladeer who was such a hit last year with his renditions of old favorites and sometimes eyebrow-raising new ones.
Be sure to bring your own tableware and silver, plus a serving utensil for your dish if necessary. We provide napkins, beverages, and drinking cups. The Depot has two microwaves, a fridge, and a range and oven for warm-ups or a little preparatory work.
Everyone is welcome to bring guests, and the event is open to the public. See you there!

VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR
We honored our volunteers at the annual ice cream social September 6 for their enormously valuable contributions during the past year. Members Rudy Scharschmidt and Dave Robinson were named Volunteers of the Year for their excellent work in restoring the Depot's pillars, the fifth of which has been completed and installed, with more to come in the spring. (Board member Jim Lewis assists them.) Again, a big thank you to every volunteer, to Amy Lalewicz for organizing the evening, and to the Tagalongs for their always excellent musical contribution.

MAYORAL RESEARCH
The city would very much like to find photos of all our mayors after we presented the council with a formal portrait of our first one, Harvey Lee Iddings. If anyone would like to halp doing research, contact Dean Davenport at 231-796-7252 or Arlene Staley at 231-547-2985. The portraits would hang in the Council Chambers of the newly renovated City Hall.
