This is our eighth outing for one of our major fund-raisers with ALL tips going toward support of the Society.

OCTOBER BOARD MEETING MINUTES SUMMARY

An historical program will be professionally videotaped in the spring on a test basis. An overhead projection screen will be installed at the Depot. The Harsha House porch will be painted. The museum store took in over $2600 in September. David Miles will go to Alpena on October 22 to give a presentation at the Besser Museum on our photo digitization project. We will have a tent in East Park during Apple Fest to sell our store mechandise. 1900 Harsha House brochures have now been distributed to the Michigan Welcome Centers. A 17' section of the 1901-1947 channel bridge railing has been donated. Past President Jack MacKenzie is the new membership chair. Lighthouse and Transportation grants are being pursued.

"ANCIENT CHARLEVOIX" WELL ATTENDED

The "Ancient Charlevoix" exhibit at the Depot this past summer and fall drew in almost 1000 people. 582 school kids were shown the Native-American artifacts discovered by Michigan State archeologists in 1971-1972 on the site occupied by LaCroft condos on West Dixon along the Lake Michigan bluff. Some of the artifacts dated back to circa 1500 B.C. The younger kids also participated in the methodology of an archeological dig, discovering arrowheads and other artifacts in boxes of sand.

The Society extends its gratitude to the many people who put the exhibit together and to all the docents for the general public and the school groups.

HARVEST POTLUCK GREAT!

Many thanks to John Haggard, Jack MacKenzie, and singer Eric Ernst for making our capacity crowd harvest potluck on October 4 at the Depot such a good evening. The food this year was better than ever (and very little, if any, squash!).

MISCELLANY

Rosalyn Goldstick's poetry book on Charlevoix titled "Do You Remember?," available over the summer through the museum, was a complete sell out. Increased exposure since mid-July through the display window downtown has dramatically increased museum attendance and store sales. Would any member like to assume the responsibility of chairing our Educational Committee, working with the schools and establishing educational projects through the museum? Call 547-0373 if you are interested. The museum recently hosted visitors from Jerusalem. The Manie Fessenden art exhibit at Harsha House brought visitors from Florida especially to see it.

The Society welcomes new members: David & Ingrid Nedwick; Joyce K. Eastman.

Donations from: Charlevoix State Bank and Currier Lawn Maintenance, Inc. for development of the garden strip along the south fence of Harsha House.

The Society deeply regrets the recent passing of Society enthusiast and life member, J. Jefferson Miller.

Memorials received from: William & Carol Venema for Margaret Duerr; Alvin & Patricia Ranger for Jeff Miller.
