Spaghetti Dinner at Villager!

It’s that time of year again!  Intrepid Society volunteers and Board members whip on aprons, don running shoes, memorize a list of three items, and once again demonstrate their professional wait staff skills honed over the past eleven seasons at Terry Left’s Villager Pub for our annual fundraising all-you-can-eat spaghetti dinner.

Once again, Terry is donating ALL proceeds from the $7.50 spaghetti and garlic bread portion of the menu entirely to the Society!  On top of that, ALL TIPS come to the Society!  These funds will go toward general support which in the past has helped with the beautiful restoration of the Depot (now pretty much done) and the ongoing photo archives digitization project (important historic photos keep pouring in), among many, many other Society activities such as exhibits, programs, and publications. Over the past years Terry has provided us the means to raise over $17,000 to help meet our goals.

When: Wednesday, November 4th from 5:00 to 9:00 P. M.

Where: The Villager Pub 427 Bridge Street at Antrim Street

 Additional Menu Items:

  • 2-piece Whitefish Basket with Cole Slaw & Fries: $8.95
  • Burritos: $8.95

Again we will have door prizes!  Grand prize is a superb dinner for two at Terry’s Place restaurant, second prize a 2010 Charlevoix in Historic Photos calendar, and third a 2009 Christmas bulb ornament showing a Pere Marquette Resort Special train at the Depot.

Join us for an always fun evening of excellent food and good company, for an always good cause. Our thanks once more to Terry and his patient and supportive crew for teaching us how to keep our thumbs out of the spaghetti, and for helping to make these events such a success.  (The evening will be non-smoking restaurant-wide.)

MUSEUM HOURS THROUGH DECEMBER 31

The Harsha House Museum will be open 1-4 P. M. Tuesday to Saturday through the end of the year except for Christmas and Thanksgiving.  The side office door facing the bank is open those days from 11 A. M. to 1 P. M. for those who need to conduct Society business or purchase store items during off hours.  Start planning your Christmas shopping at the museum store now!

MISCELLANEOUS ITEMS

Considering the state of the economy, the Harsha House Museum had a good summer and fall (through Applefest) with visitor numbers just slightly under previous years.  They arrived from all over the country and as far away as Helsinki, Tel Aviv, Japan, and Frankfurt, Germany. . .

The annual Christmas dinner at the Grey Gables will take place this year on Tuesday, December 1.  Details in next month’s newsletter. . .

The Earl Young Legacy exhibit at the Harsha House has been one of our best received exhibits ever.  The exhibit will be up for two years, but some visitors have been so enthusiastic they’ve requested that somehow it be made a permanent display.  The DVD on Earl Young and the Mike Barton book on the Mushroom Houses are all selling very well.  The new color brochure pinpointing the Earl Young buildings is being distributed three times faster than the Chamber of Commerce’s old brochure.  The main reaction to the exhibit, DVD, book and brochure is that people interested in Earl Young had no idea he created as many buildings as he did.  Stop by the Harsha House or the Chamber to lay in a stock of brochures for your houseguests. . .

The estate of recently deceased Edith Gilbert has provided the Society the research materials Mrs. Gilbert used to produce her book on Charlevoix’s “Summer Resort Life—Tangos, Teas, and All,” plus all the columns and research materials used to produce them for the Charlevoix Courier over many years. . .

Now is the time to start thinking about Christmas and what the museum store can provide for the Charlevoix lover: the 2010 Charlevoix in Historic Photos calendar with 13 images never before used ($12.95), the 2009 Christmas bulb showing a Resort Special train at the Depot ($7), our new Railroad in Charlevoix historic booklet ($10), Russ Bolt’s tiles ($18), many lighthouse items, and much more.
