Life of Bob Miles Program

From 1931 through 1972, photographer Bob Miles snapped thousands of pictures of every facet of Charlevoix, capturing an era that comprised about one-third of the town’s historical existence. Portraits, athletic teams, industries, vessels, Bridge Street, sunsets, aerial views, Lake Michigan in all its moods, the piers and lighthouses, hotels, weddings, events and celebrations, bands, houses—the gamut was enormous. Bob became Charlevoix’s unofficial historian in the 1950s when he began to rescue from oblivion a huge treasure trove of vintage photos that formed the basis for the current Society photo archives of more than 20,000 images. In 1971 he provided the historical evidence that saved an endangered Weathervane Inn from sliding into the channel. Join us as his son David L. Miles, your editor and co-director of the Harsha House Museum, presents a fully illustrated program on the Life and Works of Bob Miles that will cover his arrival in Charlevoix in 1913 to his final achievement, the first Bob Miles’ Charlevoix book in 1976.

When: Tuesday, June 1 at 7:00 p.m.
