04-Sphere almost com#1725F6

The sphere was almost complete by Thanksgiving 1960. The 9200-pound top plate, called Plate #1, lies at a slight angle ready to be moved in as soon as the construction derrick is taken out. After this, a concrete cradle was poured under the sphere to support the gigantic interior concrete monolith that housed the reactor and spent fuel pool. The monolith would tower over ninety feet and weigh close to 24 million pounds.
